Final edits

Today we spent the afternoon doing the final edit for the blind and speech mixes after they have both been ‘rough’ mixed. To do this I spent yesterday evening finding suitable music that we could use with me mostly drawing inspiration from relevant Spotify playlists.  We did this a collaborative process with me doing the editing but asking the others what should be changed and where the music should be placed.

Despite not being a complex mix with not many channels, there were complications to each, most notably making sure that the music wasn’t too loud and that everything was in the right place. Without pre-mixing each episode it would have been impossible to achieve what we did, as we would have to had to move clips into the right place and follow the script.

Editing process

As I will be doing the majority of the editing I shall be using a combination of both Cubase and Adobe Audition as everyone else in the group is familiar with the software and knows how to use it.

The advantages of Cubase are that I can do complicated edits on this easily and I find it easier to navigate than audition. However, the disadvantages are the obvious cost of the software and the fact that the others aren’t familiar with the software

The advantages of Audition are that all the group are proficient in it and know how to use it, furthermore, it is incredibly easy to use and cheap.

First Meeting with Rose

In our first meeting with rose we discussed how we intended to go about producing our idea. This meant that we discussed all relevant options such as not just doing a documentary about speech therapy but doing a series of podcasts around different senses such as hearing and blindness etc, it was also agreed that this would be a lot easier to achieve as it would mean talking to less people about a specific problem. Furthermore we also discussed a client as I would need to do this, it was agreed that we would approach charities relevant to a young audience that have disabilities and see if they would be willing.  Finally we talked about how to incorporate a visual element with me suggesting short form video and Molly being keen to do this.

Things to do for the next meeting:

  • Clarify our idea further.
  • Come up with learning objectives.
  • Approach relevant charities.

First Meeting

This meeting was simply to discuss any ideas we had and potential options for where we could place and the audience we would aim it towards.  We had a quick brainstorm to see if we knew anyone who had been affected by speech therapy issues and how we would develop this further into a documentary and then talked about the type of experts we would need to talk too. Furthermore we discussed where we could put the project such as on BBC Radio Lincolnshire or Siren FM, at the time we leaned more towards Radio Lincolnshire, because of the potential CV booster.
